Stay in the Know

The weekly announcements are extensive so I wanted to send them early. Please make sure you read them thoroughly.

 ·         I would like to start with the best news yet. I will be returning to work full time starting Monday, January 8. I look forward to seeing everyone because I have truly missed my EVA family.

·         Everyone should be settled into his or her courses by now. According to Access, all courses should be downloaded into each student’s portal by Saturday, January 6. If you are still missing a class in Access or Connexus by Monday, January 8, please send me an email immediately to let me know what you are missing.

·         As you know, I was on medical leave since November 7. One major change that took place was in the Connexus program. MCPSS Academic Supervisors evaluated each Connexus course and revamped the courses to align them with the state and district standards. Therefore, there are quite a few changes in many of the courses. I was given access to the new courses on Tuesday even; therefore, the pacing calendar that was provided was for the old format of the courses. EVA had to revamp the calendar for each course. I am attaching a new pacing calendar that align to the newly formatted courses. Please follow this new pacing calendar. Once you open this document, it has tabs at the bottom that allows you to jump to the courses you  need. We will send a PDF printable version of this on Monday.

·         If you need your information to download Microsoft Office, please email Ms. Clarke, She will be able to assist you.

·         EVA STUDENT-PARENT HANDBOOK – All students/parents received an EVA handbook. It is the responsibility of everyone to read this handbook and become familiar with the policy and procedures. It is not possible to cover the entire handbook during orientation. Therefore, I asked that you take time to read the handbook and follow the policy and procedures. I am attaching the handbook to this email in case anyone misplaced his or hers.

·         Connexus Electives – If you are taking a Connexus elective course, the courses are designed differently from the core subject courses. The elective courses require that you answer text questions, lab questions, discussion questions, and a quiz. The quizzes in the electives are actually the tests. They are locked so you will have to take the quizzes on campus. All other quizzes in the core subjects (English, Social Studies, Science, and Math) can be taken at home. You can also complete several chapters at a time without taking the quiz in the electives. When you review the EVA Handbook, you will notice that the Connexus elective courses have submission requirements. I am listing these requirements below. To earn the most points on your assignments, you should ensure that you meet these requirements:

                             Connexus Elective Submission Requirements –

§  For the Discussion Questions, students must respond in paragraph form (4-5 sentences) per paragraph, with a minimum of 50 words. Check over spelling and grammar. Points will be deducted for grammatical errors. If the question has more than one part, make sure you answer each section thoroughly.

§  For the Text and Lab Questions, each question must be answered in paragraph form (4-5 sentences). Points will be deducted for grammatical errors. If you fail to answer all questions, you will be given only ½ credit for the work submitted. Therefore, answer ALL questions.

§  You cannot simply copy and paste your responses from the provided lectures. You must rephrase or restate the answers. Copying and pasting will result in a 0.

§  The teachers will submit all work into TurnItin, an online plagiarism check program. If your responses have been plagiarized from the program or another student’s work, you will be given a 0 for the assignment.

§  For the text and lab questions, all work must be submitted using Microsoft Office or using a pdf. format.

§  In order to take the module quiz/test for an elective course, the text and lab questions and discussion questions must be completed.

·         I am excited about the new family members who joined EVA this semester. I think we have the best students in the entire district. We are in the process of planning a lot of activities for this semester. Therefore, we will get to learn and hang out with each other. We have several community service projects that I hope many of you will participate. If you have any ideas for a service project or an activity that we can do, feel free to share.

·         The lab will be opened five days a week:

o   Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM

o   Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:45 AM – 4 PM

·         Ms. Riggs’ tutoring hours are listed below. YOU DO NOT NEED AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUTORING; SIMPLY SHOW UP!

o    Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays  8:30 AM – 12:30 PM

o   Tuesdays and Thursdays 12 PM until 4 PM.

·         If you have not joined EVA’s remind account, I encourage everyone to join. This is a great way to communicate.

Let’s start 2018 off with a bang. I am expecting to see EVERYONE on the honor roll for 3rd Quarter.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email, text, or call. Enjoy your weekend!
