  •  What is Access?

Access is a virtual learning program that is administered by the Alabama State Department of Education through Troy University. It provides equal access to high-quality instruction and an infrastructure that delivers quality learning opportunities.

  • Are teachers attached to Access courses?

Access does attach teachers to each course. The teachers provide their own pacing specifically design for their course. They oversee the course and provide additional support when requested. All coursework for Access will be graded by the Access teachers. The Access teachers control every aspect of their classroom.

  • Can a student move freely through modules?

Access allows students to move freely through modules prior to taking a post-test in the module. All daily activities, projects, and quizzes can be done at home (unless the teacher places a password on the quiz). All module tests and exams must be done at the curriculum lab.

  • Can a student work on Access at home?

Again, all daily activities, projects, and quizzes can be done at home (unless the teacher places a password on the quiz). All module tests and exams must be done at the curriculum lab.

  • What will be the makeup of the final grade?

The Access teachers determine the percentage of daily work, quizzes, projects, tests, and EQT/Term Exam for each Quarter/Term. If a student is taking the course in the fall, Terms/Quarters 1 and 2 are averaged together for a semester grade. If a student is taking the course in the spring, Terms/Quarters 3 and 4 are averaged together for a semester grade.

  • Do I have to take notes in Access?

We highly suggest taking notes while you work through your Access courses. Some of the Access teachers allow open notebook tests. The teachers who allow open notebook will provide EVA this information at the beginning of each course.

  • When can I start an Access course?

Because the Alabama State Department controls Access, they designate the calendar for starting a course. However, EVA provides the date for ending a course. All whole credit courses begin the first week of each semester. A student cannot be placed in a whole credit course two weeks after the course begins. A half-credit course begins the first week of each quarter. A student cannot be placed in a half-credit course a week after the course begins. The courses are design to end at the quarter for half-credit courses and at the end of the semester for whole credit courses. If a student desires to take a course after the start date, the student will still be required to complete the class by the last day of the course.

  • Can I finish an Access course early?

If a student works extremely hard, a student can complete an Access course earlier than expected. If a student completes early, he or she cannot begin another course with Access until the beginning of the next quarter or semester.

  • Am I allowed to change my Access login information?

Although Access allows students to change their password, Envision Virtual Academy does not allow students to change their password. Therefore, you cannot change your password. The password provided MUST be the password you maintain throughout the program.
